Story: A Panel Discussion
I was having a conversation about comics with Ross Campbell on Twitter this evening when he mentioned having listened to a recording of a panel discussion between Brandon Graham, Paul Pope, and Sam Hiti. If you read my blog, then you should already know that I’m a HUGE fan of Brandon Graham, and if you’re into comic books, but you don’t know who Paul Pope is, then you’re...

Tales From The Comic Store #3: Hellooo!
This is the same father/son combo that I just wrote about in my previous post a short while ago.
Dad: You're sure this is what you want?
Kid: Yes!
Dad: You want an action figure instead of a comic?
Kid: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
Dad: You don't want the other one? This guy doesn't have a face.
Kid: Yes, he does!
Dad: Why is he all green?
Kid: Because it's Max Power Hal Jordan. Helloooooo!
Dad: Did you see these other ones? This is what Green Lantern's supposed to look like. The one you have doesn't look good.
Kid: Yeah, well your Elektra comics don't look good!

Tales From The Comic Store #2: Torture
Kid: Dad, can I have this?
Dad: How much is it?
Kid: $10.50.
Dad: No. I told you, you only have $10 to spend today.
Kid: Dad, I know it's $10.50, but I promise that if I get it today I'll never, never, never, never, never, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever sell it at a yard sale and I'll take really good care of it.
Dad: If you really want it, then we can come back next week and you can get it. You'll have $15 then.
Kid: Daaaad, you're torturing me! You're torturing me, dad!
I'm not sure whether it makes the story better or worse that I don't know what it was that the kid wanted.

Wednesday Haul: 5/25/11
New books I bought this week: Amazing Spiderman #662 Astonishing Spiderman & Wolverine #6 - A so-so end to an overall forgettable story. It had a few funny parts and a neat idea or two, but this series was much more about spectacle than substance. Captain America #618 Carbon Grey #3 Crossed 3D #1 - I Almost didn’t buy this. Reason 1.) It cost $9. Reason 2.) I loved the first...

Wonders Never Cease
The above is my night’s haul from an awesome book store called Wonder Book & Video in Frederick, MD. Wonder Book has been a staple of my life since I started collecting comics back in the 90’s. In those days the store used to actually carry new comics, as well as a pretty decent selection of back issues, so whenever my family found ourselves in Frederick I would want to stop in...

What I'm Watching: Super
What I Liked: - The violence. I’d heard that this movie was pretty extreme, so I was ready for a little of the old ultra-violence. As it turns out, for one such as myself there wasn’t much I hadn’t seen before, but there were a few times that a cynical smile crossed my face when something brutal happened that I wasn’t expecting. - The blunt perverseness. Kick-Ass did an...

Wednesday Haul: 5/18/11
New books I bought this week: Amazing Spiderman #661 Astonishing X-Men #38 - Between the fill-in artist last issue and the fact that this issue cuts into the middle of the current arc to tell an unrelated story, I’m guessing that there have been some deadline issues with Jason Pearson. Regardless, this issue was a blast and the art by Juan Bobillo is a bit odd, but really cool at the...

The Tool Man
If I could capture all of the conversations I have with my Grandfather at dinner throughout the week, I'm convinced that I would be just as famous as the "Shit My Dad Says" guy.
Grandfather: Have you heard who's going to be at the Frederick Fair this year?
Mom: No.
Grandfather: The Tool Man.
Dad: Tim Allen?
Grandfather: No.
Me: Bob Vila?
Grandfather: No! The comedian...
Dad: Tim Allen's the Tool Man.
Grandfather: No, the other one!
Dad: ...
Me: ...
Mom: ...Larry The Cable Guy?
Grandfather: Yeah! That's the one.

Crotch Spray
My parents are on a trip to New York City for the day. This is a text message conversation I had with my mother.
Mom: Saw a man spraying his crotch. That's our highlight so far.
Me: Spraying it with what?
Mom: Some kind of spray.

Wednesday Haul: 5/11/11
New books I bought this week: Amazing Spiderman #660 Astonishing X-Men #37 - I’m pretty disappointed that Jason Pearson only drew about 2/5 of this issue, but I do like fill-in artist Sara Pichelli’s art, so it could’ve been worse. Crossed: Psychopath #2 Hellboy: Being Human - The pairing of Mike Mignola’s writing and Richard Corben’s art is a match made in my...
