What I'm Reading - Akira Club
I’ve been really into Katsuhiro Otomo lately, thanks in no small part to the Otomblr blog that I recently began following. At last year’s Baltimore Comic Con I picked up a copy of the book “Akira Club” for 1/2 price and never got around to reading it, so since I’m in an Otomo mood, I cracked it open a few days ago. The book has 4 sections:
- “Akira...

Wednesday Haul: 6/22/11
New books I bought this week:
Captain America #619
Dark Horse Presents #2 - I was very excited for the return of Dark Horse Presents, but I’ve admittedly been pretty disappointed by the new series’ content thus far. Outside of Richard Corben’s 8-page segments, none of the other stories have piqued my interest. I liked Sanford Green’s art in “Rotten Apples”...

Worked this up while waiting for some white out to dry on the piece I’m waiting to scan. We have had talks of stock*pile about doing ECCC next year so Keeping with the old wrestling poster theme from the spx poster I made (I’ve fixed the dates on it now)I worked this up on a whim.

There will come a point in the editing room where you will start making jokes about using Coldplay’s Clocks over the end credits, and laughing at these jokes with a sort of raw and desperate delirium.

What I'm Watching: Green Lantern
What I Liked:
- Peter Sarsgaard. I liked the level of over-the-top-ness that Sarsgaard brought to his crazy villain role. I also thought he looked awesome with the freaky bulbous head makeup. I didn’t think the character of Hector Hammond was particularly interesting after he became a straight-up villain, but Sarsgaard’s performance was probably my favorite part of the movie.

Some People Are Just Born Dumb
This guy deserves so much worse than what he got.
Random Moron On deviantArt: do you like moebius because your from canada?
Brandon Graham: I just live in Canada, I’m from the states. and Moebius is hard not to like.
Random Moron On deviantArt: His style is good but his storytelling is terrible.

What I'm Watching: Super 8
What I Liked:
- The mystery. Along with the involvement of J.J. Abrams, this is what initially made me interested in the film. It is also what kept me glued to the screen while watching it. We know there’s something(s) creeping around town attacking people and causing a general ruckus, but what is it? We get a glimpse here or a clue there, but just enough to keep the creature feature fans...

Wednesday Haul: 6/15/11
New books I bought this week:
Crossed: Psychopath #3
Fantastic Four By Mark Waid & Mike Wieringo Ultimate Collection Vol. 1 TPB - I always liked Mike Wieringo a lot (especially on Spiderman), but this run came before I started buying a lot of books based solely on their creators. The Fantastic Four have never really done anything for me, but I’m hoping that Mark Waid can change...

How To Kill Your Favorite Superheroes
5 years ago, I decided to throw out all of my copies of Wizard Magazine. Before doing so I took one last long trip down memory lane and flipped through every issue I owned (which was a lot). There were a few articles that I kind of liked and decided to tear out and keep. This is an excerpt from one of them.
One of the writers for Wizard quizzed Warren Ellis on how (given the chance) he would kill...

3 Essential Tumblr Blogs For Art Lovers
I’m sure I’ve only seen about 1% of the art blogs that Tumblr has to offer, but in my humble opinion, these are three that any art lover should be following.
OTOMBLR
Katsuhiro Otomo is the genius behind the classic anime film Akira and it’s 1,000+ page manga pre-cursor. When it comes to massive city scapes, be they standing dominantly above a futuristic motorcycle chase or...

Green Sky Zero: relaunches, renumbers and reboots →
What he said:
greenskyzero:
By now all of the internet is a buzz with the september relaunch/reboot/renumbering of the DC universe. I could be wrong but I believe at this point most of, if not all, of the new books have been announced. I can tell you that Personal I’am excited about almost none of the new DC books as the creative teams aren’t exactly setting the world on fire.
Most of the...

Wednesday Haul: 6/8/11
New books I bought this week:
American Vampire: Survival Of The Fittest #1 - I regrettably found the first few issues of the regular American Vampire series fairly uninteresting, so I’m only really buying this mini-series for the Sean Murphy artwork.
Echo #30 - Echo was one of my favorite books for the first 25 issues or so, but the last few have felt really rushed to me, culminating in...
