Wednesday Haul: 9/21/11
New books I bought this week:
Batman #1 - I like Greg Capullo’s art, but the main reason that I bought this issue was to check out Scott Snyder’s story. I haven’t really cared for what I read of his American Vampire series, but numerous people have told me how excellent his recent Detective Comics run was. I’ve been unable to track down all of those issues, so I figured...

Fantagor: Hello Corben, Goodbye Savings Account →
Here’s blog I just posted on my Richard Corben Fan Tumblr. Allow me to apologize to my credit card company in advance…
fantagor:
As some of my readers may be aware, I work at a comic book store part time in between drawing my own comics, working another part time job at an art supply store, and attempting to live some semblance of a life. Well, every now and then my status as a...

Wednesday Haul: 9/14/11
New books I bought this week:
Alien Vault: The Definitive Story Of The Making Of The Film HC - I’ve only read the introduction so far, but this book is FUCKING AMAZING! Just look at it…a gorgeous virgin cover with a stylish slipcase…how can you not love it? Inside the book is a detailed account of pretty much any information you could hope to know about the production of the...

Okay...Seriously? This Is Awesome!
For EMPIRE Magazine’s 20th anniversary, they held a photoshoot with a bunch of actors calling back to iconic films they’d made. You can find the full set on Pop-ology, but here are some of my favorites:

I Can Haz Conan?
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: Someone NEEDS to release an over-sized hardcover collection of every Savage Sword Of Conan cover. These things are ALL amazing (especially those by Earl Norem)! Here are a few of my favorites from the first 100 issues:
Savage Sword Of Conan #14 / Art: Earl Norem
Savage Sword Of Conan #24 / Art: Earl Norem
Savage Sword Of Conan #39 / Art: Earl...

Post-SPX Wonder Book & Video Haul
After leaving SPX on Sunday, Joel and I made our way back to Frederick for dinner at Red Robin, then made a stop at Wonder Book & Video. I’m a big fan of this cluttered, over-stocked used book store, and I figured that Joel would be as well. I can never leave this store without buying something, so here are the few gems I found during my visit.
Apes & Babes Vol. 1 HC - I find it...

SPX 2011 Haul
I only spent about 10 total minutes walking around the floor at SPX this weekend because I was usually manning the Stock*Pile booth with Joel, so I didn’t do a whole lot of shopping while I was there. Here are the few purchases I did find the time to make.
American Terrorist Sketchbook Vol. 2 - American Terrorist is the new graphic novel written by my friend and former JKS classmate Tyler...

Wednesday Haul: 9/7/11
New books I bought this week:
50 Girls 50 #4
Animal Man #1 - Of the 3 “DC New 52” books I’ve read (this, Justice League #1, and Stormwatch #1 [see below]), Animal has been the obvious standout. This feels like it would be better suited as a Vertigo title. Whereas I haven’t cared for Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth,it feels like he’s nailed Animal Man’s...

Joel and I decided to hold off on offering physical copies of Forever Winter #1 andMan-Gull #1 for sale until after SPX to make sure we had enough copies to go around. Well, guess what…SPX is over and the Stock*Pile Comics Webstore is officially open for business.
You can now order digital downloads of both of our books for a little over $1 or actual comics that you can hold in your hands...

SPX 2011 Highlights
- The surprisingly warm overall reception of Man-Gull at the show, and selling a lot more copies than I’d ever anticipated.
- Meeting Rico Renzi without knowing it, then, after realizing who he was, having a conversation with him when he came by my table to recommend Man-Gull to his friend.
- Spending time behind the table with Brian and getting to see his reaction upon reading Man-Gull...

New books I bought this week:
Amazing Spiderman #668
Chronicles Of Wormwood: The Last Battle #6
Green River Killer HC - I wrote a blog dedicated to this book a few days ago.
Invincible #82 - Not much to say about this one. Mark and company just going about their business.
The Mighty Thor #5 - Nothing against Koi Pham, but when you’re reading a series drawn by Olivier Coipel and...

Wednesday Haul: 8/24/11
New books I bought this week:
Astonishing X-Men #41 - All in all, this “Monstrous” story arc was pretty underwhelming. While it’s true that Astonishing X-Men hasn’t quite been the same since Whedon and Cassiday left, at least while Warren Ellis was writing it it didn’t feel like a generic superhero book. That’s where it seems to be right now. I will say that...

What I'm Reading - Green River Killer
A customer approached the counter at the comic store today and sat down a copy of the Green River Killer hardcover from Dark Horse Comics which came out this week. I’d never seen it before, but after scanning the book into the cash register and setting it back down on the counter, the attractive cover design made me give it another look. I leaned over to examine the small yellow text at...
