Wednesday Haul 6/6/12
New comics I bought this week:
Avengers Vs. X-Men #5 - I don’t have a lot to say about this one. It was just as average as the past 4 issues have been. Not much of a review, I know. How was everyone breathing on the moon? Did my eyes glaze over for that explanation, or wasn’t there one?
Before Watchmen: The Minutemen #1 - Darwyn Cooke’s art is quite nice. I can’t say...

Wednesday Haul 5/31/12
New comics I bought this week:
Amazing Spiderman Annual #39
America’s Got Powers #2 - Issue 1 was kind of bland, but the world is began to become more interesting in this issue. I’m still kind of annoyed by the reality show aspect of the series, but I’m hoping that it’ll shake some of those stereotypes and become something more than what I’m expecting. I want this...

Tales From The Comic Store #9 - Northman
An older guy approaches the counter while I'm looking something up on the computer.
Me: "Can I help you?"
Customer: "Do you have 'Northman'?"
Me: "That doesn't sound familiar..."
Customer: "Huh. It's a graphic novel."
At this point I stood up from my seat and approached the cash register to look up the item for him.
Me: "You said it's called 'Northman'?"
Customer: "Mm-hmm."
I type "Northman" into the register and run a search.
Me: "The only item we carry with 'Northman' in the name is a True Blood statue. Apparently that's a character's last name."
Customer (befuddled): "Really...?"
Me: "..."
Customer: "It's put out by...Ver-tee-go?"
Me: "Vertigo?"
Customer: "I guess so."
Me: "...you mean Northlanders?"
Customer: "I'm pretty sure it's 'Northman'."
I step out from the behind the counter and begin to lead him to our Vertigo section.
Me: "I've never heard of Northman, but I know there's a comic called Northlanders."
I show him our selection of Northlanders graphic novels and, sure enough, that's what he was looking for. My favorite part of the entire confusing charade was that he wasn't familiar with the word "Vertigo".

Check out this really good interview with former Kubert School classmate of mine and current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle artist Dan Duncan.

Wednesday Haul 5/23/12
New comics I bought this week:
Amazing Spiderman #686
Aquaman #9 - I’m not sure why I’m so interested in this story arc, but I am. Maybe it’s just that I think Black Manta looks cool.
Dark Horse Presents #12 - What the hell happened to Sam Keith? He’s always had a kind of sloppy style, but his Alien story in this book looks like it was drawin in 12 minutes. I find it...

Wednesday Haul 5/16/12
New comics I bought this week:
Avengers Vs. X-Men #4 - For a few pages I thought that Wolverine was really going to team up with Hope and the remaining 8 issues of this series would turn into a Wolvie and Hope versus the world story, which I’d have been excited to see. Then it turned out that Wolverine lied to her and I became uninterested all over again.
AVX: VS #2 - There’s not a...
